Promoting education and achievement of adults learning English
Services - Professional Development Workshops
Adult Second Language Acquisition
How do adults learn a new language? What backgrounds and experiences do they bring? How can practitioners facilitate this process?
This workshop is designed for practitioners working with all levels of adults learning English. Participants learn about key concepts in second language acquisition (e.g., native and target language proficiency, inter-language patterns, meaningful interaction, error analysis) and apply these concepts to the development of a language learning lesson. As an assignment, they plan and deliver a lesson using the information they learn in the course. They then share their lessons, assess their effectiveness, and learn more about instructional techniques for planning and delivering language lessons.
Goal:
Participants incorporate principles of second language acquisition into the design of language lessons.
Expected outcomes:
- Learn about principles of second language acquisition.
- Develop techniques for working with second language learners at different levels of English language proficiency.
- Use the principles learned to develop lesson plans for the learners in their classes and programs.
