Imagine you were in Sita’s position. What might you do to solve this problem?
- In this situation, I would work with the other teachers in the program to develop a proficiency-based approach to assessment, as this approach would help us create more meaningful learning experiences for our students and provide evidence for administration about the program’s effectiveness. I would first help teachers understand the principles of this approach to assessment, and then work with them to create a common language and benchmarks to measure and evaluate proficiency. Using this information, we could create an aligned approach to grading that better reflects students’ growth and achievement, which would be motivating to students and also allow us to advocate for the continuation of our program.
