Two-Way (Dual Language) Immersion Programs

Two-way immersion programs integrate language minority and language majority students, providing instruction in both English and the native language of the language minority students. Although the structure of these programs varies, the goal is to promote bilingualism and biliteracy, grade-level academic achievement, and positive cross-cultural attitudes and behaviors in all students.

The Center for Applied Linguistics provides extensive information and online resources about two-way immersion programs, including:

  • answers to frequently asked questions;
  • comprehensive bibliographies;
  • a searchable database of two-way immersion
    programs in the United States; and
  • a new "tool kit" for immersion teachers.
