Imagine you are in Beatrizโs position. Which type of assessment would you use: placement, formative, or summative? How would you address the challenge described in this situation?
- In this situation, I would use a summative assessment to demonstrate the progress the students have made throughout the course. There are a variety of language varieties and dialects represented in the classroom, so I would need to individualize or personalize whichever assessment I choose. The state-wide language exam might not appropriately or accurately measure what all of my students can do with the language, and this exam is also designed for second language learners. It would be better to search for a different assessment or develop my own assessment to better meet the specific needs of my students and classroom.
