The pandemic has meant that teachers are suddenly expected to know how to work digitally as well as face-to-face with their students.
What kind of teacher education is needed to prepare teachers to meet this digital demand equitably and meaningfully, so all students can enjoy the benefits of technology-rich learning?
In this critical conversation, we discuss what it takes to prepare teachers of students classified as English Learners (Els) and other multilingual learners to strive for digital equity in their teaching. How do teachers learn to integrate technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge, tools, and skills for digital learning? We identify key challenges faced by teacher education programs in addressing these teacher preparation needs and suggest resources and policies that might be useful to address them.
