The 2016 Dora Johnson Awards will provide funding up to $1,000 for 15 K-12 Arabic language educators to support attendance at the 2016 ACTFL Convention in San Diego, California. The Awards are named for the late Dora Johnson, a lifelong supporter of Arabic language education who worked to increase the Arabic presence at ACTFL.
Applicants must be K-12 Arabic teachers and members of both ACTFL and the Arabic SIG (or committed to joining both).
Preference will be given according to the following criteria, in descending order:
- First-time attendees
- First-time presenters who have attended before
- Attendees who have not received a Dora Johnson Award previously.
Deadline to apply is Wednesday, September 14th, 2016.
Dora Johnson was a staff member at the Center for Applied Linguistics for 45 years and was renowned for her knowledge of the cultures of the world, her databank of resources for teaching their languages, and her passion for making that information available and accessible to all who can use it.
