Program Description
Purposes and goals of the program : We want to enable heritage speakers of Spanish to become literate in Spanish and more literate in English. We hope that after the Heritage class they will take AP Spanish Language and AP Spanish Literature as well as both the exams to better prepare them for post-secondary education.
Program Origins :The program is part of the foreign language curriculum. It was founded in 2005-2006 as a World Language course through the school district.
Parents' expectations for the program : Parents expect to be able to better connect with the school as a result of this course that honors their heritage.
Staff's expectations for the program : Enable students to be prepared and able to succeed in an AP level course. Make connections with the Hispanic community in meaningful ways. Help students become literate in Spanish and also improve literacy in English.

Languages in which staff members are proficient : English and Spanish, superior level in Spanish, 2 of 3 are also superior in English.
Credentials : Teacher certification in Spanish from Washington State. BA in Education or Spanish
Professional development opportunities that teachers need : Networking and opportunities to visit with other teachers of Heritage classes, as this is a new program this year.
