John Chi is a research assistant specializing in language assessment and program evaluation. During his time at CAL, he has worked on a number of projects that involve language assessment, program evaluation for state-wide and school-wide language programs, professional development for teachers, and organizing conferences that relate to assessment.
John received his M.S. in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University and his B.A. in Linguistics from San Diego State University. Although his work at CAL focuses on language assessment, his personal academic research primarily focuses on heritage language acquisition and education. He currently manages the Heritage Language Programs database and is conducting new research on heritage language learners and teachers.
CAL and the AELRC at Georgetown University are currently conducting a study that looks at the perceptions and needs of teachers who have taught heritage language learners.
