State World Language Standards: Frameworks, Practices, and Implications for Assessment

This poster presents results from a comparative analysis of state world language standards in 2019. It examines when, how, and in what areas states have revised their standards since original publication, the extent to which states have adopted or adapted the ACTFL World-Readiness Standards (2015), and the terminology used in state frameworks for instruction and assessment of languages other than English.

The study is supplemented with findings from a survey of Massachusetts educators on their experience with the state’s 1999 foreign languages curriculum framework regarding assessment practices, alignment with the standards, and challenges.
