Adapting to User Needs in Rater Training Design

Rater training programs for longstanding testing programs need to adapt to changing technology and to the evolving needs of test raters in order to remain relevant and effective. This poster presents rater training projects for both BEST Literacy 2.0 and BEST Plus 3.0, literacy and speaking assessments of adult English learners (ELs). These are new iterations of assessments that have been in place for 20 years. Both tests are locally scored by trained test administrators. As new forms of the assessments are launched, rater training materials are also being updated. To support the efficacy of these materials, researchers surveyed adult English education programs and states for feedback on the existing trainings and possible ways to improve.
