This poster describes the process of developing a new version of the speaking portion of the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test (NYSESLAT) in partnership with MetriTech and with guidance from New York State and the Regents Research Fund. This poster reviews methodology to develop new forms of the NYSESLAT Speaking Test for six grade bands, including alignment with policy level descriptors and targets of measurement, outlines the current approach to test development, and describes lessons learned. The work is informed by research on speaking test development and outcomes from development of similar tests for ELLs.
